An Unexpected Circumstance

This is post number 200, woohoo! I expected this post to be something special. Perhaps maybe a look back on previous posts or possibly something nifty that Elle did. Instead this post takes us to the hospital. Now before you freak out, no I did not get explosive diarrhea (something that Elle is very familiar with). I had you worried, didn't I?

On Sunday we finally caved and took Elizabeth to the hospital here in Elyria at the request of the on call doctor. She had been screaming and turning away food. We didn't want to be "those" parents, so we dealt with it for a few days thinking that it was just standard baby operating procedure. So where was I?

After Elyria could not find anything wrong with her (besides gas) they spoke to the pediatrician at Rainbow Babies and Children's Hospital in Cleveland. They recommended that we come in.
We arrived in Cleveland at around 3 a.m. and were admitted to the hospital. Not much could be done the first night besides her being monitored. So that is exactly what they did, and Sarah and I slept (except for feedings). The next day multiple doctors, nurses and lactation specialists saw Sarah and the baby. They tried different things and Elizabeth seemed to be doing a little better. Still, the doctors informed us that we would have to stay another night because they need to monitor her for 24 hours and since we arrived at 3 in the morning...well, you get it.

Elizabeth finally sleeping.
Numbers and such.
That night I went home to keep an eye on the dogs. I didn't have much of a role at the hospital at the time and besides being let out by Sarah's dad and my dad earlier in the day, the dogs were cooped up in the house. Sarah remained at the hospital to continue feedings and keep an eye on Elle. The volume on my cell phone was turned up for the first time in years.

The next day I woke up to a happy text. Elizabeth was feeding from the bottles better. Mom was still exhausted, but baby seemed to be doing well and was more than likely going to be released in a few hours. I headed back over to the hospital and the mood had definitely improved.

An attentive momma.
Please, please, please let us go home.
Elle's pleading worked. We were able to leave just a few hours later. The diagnoses? We have a cranky baby. Turns out we are "those" parents.

Thanks for reading!
