[BIKE] Century Park

Today was a nice sunny day. I decided to leave a few minutes early for work and snap some pictures of a park I had been meaning to post about all Summer, but just never got around to it.

Century Park in Lorain is one of the oldest parks in the city. It used to be home to a dance hall and a bath house that butted up against the beach. Now only the bath house remains 114 years later and I'm not sure if it is still in use. It doesn't look like it. According to the Lorain Public Library the park was opened in 1900 after the purchase of the Farragher Farm, which ran along the lake.

[BIKE] Fall Colors

Unfortunately this year we have had some high winds and most of the leaves were blown off of the trees before I was able to get some pictures. These are just a few I shot around my neighborhood while driving around today.

The First Week with a Motor

This week was the first week I rode my motorcycle. It was pretty cold out until yesterday. Last night on my way home from work was the first time I finally felt as though I was relaxed on the bike and not fighting the cold the whole way. Today I was actually sweating in my layers, but once again the ride to work was awesome. I get why everyone likes this so much. It is a feeling unlike any other. It is exactly that cliche sense of freedom that every motorcyclist talks about. It is almost as if you are a part of the bike. The open air, the responsiveness, leaning into turns. It has been a blast so far and I cannot wait until next Summer.

Betty and Luna Come Home

On Monday Sarah's scooter "Luna" was dropped of and yesterday my motorcycle "Betty" was retrieved (after a few hiccups). Last night Sarah and I went for our maiden run through the parking lot in front of Target to get a feel for our new wheels.

[BIKE] The End of Summer

Summer has technically been over since late last month, but it only truly felt like it ended this past week. The days of warm lakeside bike rides are over and a harsh Winter is a-comin'. My bike has remained abandoned in the garage and is not likely to come back out any time soon. This season I rode farther than I had ever ridden (1,198 miles) and to places I have never explored, even some in my own backyard.

This being said, I would like to share some of my favorite photographs and sites from a very eventful bicycling season, even some from the earlier, colder months.

Betty and Luna

On Wednesday my wife and I went out in search of two wheeled upgrades, and we found them. I would like everyone to meet the new motorized additions to Mike on a Bike.

First is the one I will be riding:

Betty, A.K.A. "Black Betty" (2003 Suzuki Marauder 800).

Alexandria Rae is Born

This morning at 05:56 my brother and sister-in-law had their first child, Alexandria, making me an Uncle for the first time. Time to see how much of a bad influence I can be on an impressionable child, just kidding. Congratulations Brandon and Alyssa!
