[BIKE] One Thousand Miles

"And I would bike 1,000 miles, and I would bike 1,000 more" (more than likely next year, because there is not enough time left this year. did I ruin the song?). Today I made it past the 1,000 mile threshold, which to most bicyclists would be minor, but for someone that was around the 350 mile mark for the entire 2013 season, I don't think it is too shabby (brushes off shoulder).

The Lorain County Fair (Part 3)

The final day of the fair went off without a hitch. Soccer balls were kept out of cow poop and despite it being Demolition Derby night, fights did not occur. Most calls were minor, heat exhaustion, vehicle lockouts, and one intoxicated female that had to be removed from the derby area twice.

Believe it or not this was not set up for the picture.

The Lorain County Fair (Part 2)

Part two the of the Lorain County Fair post will feature days two and three that I worked at the fair. Why? Because nothing occurred on day two at the fair.

It's too early for this...

The ALS Ice Bucket Challenge

The newest craze in the U.S. is to dump ice water on yourself to support ALS, also known as Lou Gehrig's Disease. If you fail to complete the challenge within 24 hours of being "called out" you must donate $100 to the cause. I know what your thinking. Why would that help out at all? Wouldn't everyone just dump water on themselves and not donate? You'd think (and so did I), but you'd be wrong.

According to the New York Times most of the people that are doing the "Ice Bucket Challenge" are also donating money to the ALS charity. In fact in just the 3 short weeks since this challenge began the ALS Association has raised $13.3 million. In the same time period last year they only raised $1.7 million. That is a 782% increase over last year.

The Lorain County Fair (Part 1)

The Lorain County Fair always falls on the third week in August. It is the reason that the Firelands School District starts a week later than the other schools in the county. If it didn't, most of the students would not be present, they would be at the fair.

Ever since I can remember I have been going to the fair. Is it particularly exciting? Not really, but it is an experience like no other. People getting excited over cows, tractors, demo cars, big trucks, and creating things out of hay bales.

It is fantastic.....

.......but it is not why I am here (I'd still be here anyway, I shouldn't kid myself). I am here for work.

[BIKE] Amherst Sandstone Village

The Amherst Sandstone Village is located at the intersections of Milan Avenue and North Lake Street in (you guessed it) Amherst. It is the home of the Amherst Historical Society and a bunch of neat old buildings. The buildings in the village are mostly originals, some being tore down and put back together on site, but all of them were once used in Amherst.

Due to a malfunction in my bike tracking phone application I do not have a route map for this ride (you're just going to have to trust me).

I bet you can't guess what kind of stone the entrance marquee is made of.

The Cawley Wedding

Sometimes you get so wrapped up in your work or other projects that you forget to still have fun every once in a while. My wife and I try to get out and have fun as much as possible, but sometimes it just can't happen, whether due to working opposite shifts or just the amount of work period. This weekend was my friend Bobby's wedding, and even though it was their big day it was also a break for us from the monotony of every day life.
