[EXPLORE] Caboose Mystery Solved!

On April 15th of last year I took you all on a ride along the entirety of the North Coast Inland Trail. If you do not recall you can check it out here. On this trip I mentioned that there used to be a caboose that resided next to the old train depot. I thought to have photographed it behind a fence a little bit farther down the trail. I was incorrect.

Picture from 1970 of the caboose next to the depot.
What I thought was the same caboose.
As you can see in the above two pictures, these are different cabooses. I'm not talking about paint as I assumed that a some point in the past 45 years it may have been repainted. As you can see in the top picture, the caboose has a slanted roof. In the bottom picture the roof sides are straight up and down. This is when I remembered the caboose in the Amherst Sandstone Village. I knew that all of the structures in the village were historic but I guess I never put two and two together at the time. You can read about the Sandstone Village here.

Caboose in the Amherst Sandstone Village.
As you can see in the picture above that was taken last Summer, this caboose has a slanted roof. With the help of my sources (Google) I was able to find this article. The Caboose was moved from Oberlin in 2003 and was placed in Amherst. It was in serious disrepair and was carefully restored to its former luster. The article states that it is a 1925 B&O Caboose and it was repainted its original color "Devil Red".

Thanks for reading!
