North Coast Oktoberfest 2016

This past weekend I was off work (yeah, it was weird for me too) so in between working around the house we drove out to Sandusky for the North Coast Oktoberfest. My sister was in town from Pennsylvania and it was a perfect day for a festival by the lake. The sun was out and the temperatures were in the mid 70's. Only once the sun went down did jackets become a necessity. Anyway, here are some pictures from the day.

Wouldn't be Oktoberfest without bier.

The family.

Teresa photo bombing my picture.

Kid on a hovercraft.

Mom and Dad.

This was a game where whoever got the sausage closest to the line won (no, really).

After the festival we headed over to the Dockside Cafe, a place my parents frequent.

Cedar Point of in the distance.

It got a little bit chillier in the evening.

Sarah joined us as well after the baby shower she attended.

Our final stop of the evening was to the Wakeman Elevator. Another place my parents showed us.

They have a large selection of local wines and beers.

They also had live music and some crazy decor.

It was a very fun and eventful day.

Late addition to this post:

While we were wandering around Sandusky the history nerd in me noticed the pier that is currently occupied by the Jet Express. I thought it looked familiar to the one in my "Images of America: Cedar Point" book, and I happened to be right. But then, when am I not?

This is the Coastal Services building today.

The Jet Express pier today.

As you can see by the caption the picture above is from 1942. The current pier (that still stands today) was built after the infamous 1924 tornado took out the old one. At the far left of the picture is the original Boeckling offices (the owner of Cedar Point) that is the current Coastal Services building. You can also see that the pier used to be enclosed. The large marque is also no longer in place.

Thanks for reading!
