Motorcycle Trip to Virginia (Part 1)

About a month ago my wife and I decided to go on our first motorcycle trip. We also decided to try out a new website (new to us anyway), Airbnb. For those not familiar with the website, it is basically a site for people renting out part of their home or land and is much cheaper than most hotels. Anyway, back to the story. We knew that we would not be able to go extremely far on our first trip so we decided to travel a maximum of two states away, stopping halfway. Our destination was completely determined by a picture of this...

This teepee is located on a "farm" in the mountains of Virginia. We based our entire trip around this structure and it turned out to be an amazing adventure. So please join me and Sarah on our journey to a land of natural wonders. A place where "roads" consist of nothing more than a clearing of trees and brush. Also, there are goats and llamas....

We left the house Monday morning after I got out of work around 8:30 am.

Our first stop was Grampa's Cheese Barn in Ashland for some goodies.

Mmmmmm......

We then traveled through Amish Country and stopped at the Farmstead restaurant.

If you haven't had their peanut butter sauce you are missing out.

After lunch we got desert at Tom's Ice Cream Bowl in Zainesville.

As you can see the place is still very original.

My milkshake and Sarah's "two scoops".

Our final stop in Ohio was Fink's Harley-Davidson in Zainesville to pick up a tee shirt for Sarah's friend.

Our final final stop in Ohio was for gas right before we crossed the border.

After fueling we took a little break and checked out this old lock system across the street.

West Virginia here we come!

There aren't any pictures of West Virginia on the first day because it was mostly highway (which Sarah thoroughly enjoyed) and was getting dark. We finally arrived at our first stay over in West Union, WV at around 9:00 pm.

The home we stayed in was built during the final years of the Civil War.

After unloading our gear we found the only open place in town to eat because we were starving at this point.

This is what you look like after being awake for 24 hours....

Our first day was quite an adventure, but nothing compared to what was going to come. We learned a lot about riding and our limitations on this trip, but we will talk about that more later. It was now time for bed.

To be continued.
